Carmel College, Milford: Andie Quirke competing at the Surf Lifesaving New Zealand Pool
Championships, winning two gold medals and two U19 team New Zealand records, along with a
silver and three bronze medals. Lola Wood competed at the Trans-Tasman Athletics Competition and
won two gold medals and received the Trophy for Outstanding Performance, Sportsmanship and
Spirit Award.

Liston College, Henderson: Alphaeus Ang is the New Zealand Junior Chess Champion (overall
U20’s) as well as the New Zealand School Pupils Champion and New Zealand U14 Champion.

St Mary’s College, Auckland: At the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Tournament
Mellata Tatola placed 2nd in Shot Put, 3rd in Discus and 1st in Hammer Throw, setting a new NZ record
for U17 Hammer throw. Morgan Carroll won two silver medals at the National Karate Championships
and will represent New Zealand in Australia at the World Championship. Aimee Mitchell was a
member of the New Zealand Barbarian Hockey Team which was a curtain raiser for the Black Sticks
test match against Australia.

St Peter’s College, Auckland: Bailey Cox won the New Zealand Representative Shield for his
achievements in archery. Finn Hennessey is the New Zealand Open Champion in his weight division
of Taekwondo.

Marcellin College, Auckland: Samuel Godinet and Bradley Louisiale have been accepted for an
American Scholarship playing Rugby Union. Adam Niziol competed at the National Archery
Championships and won a silver medal in his category.

Baradene College, Remuera: Nadia Olla represented New Zealand in the FIFA U20 Women’s
World Cup and also featured in the New Zealand squad for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
Krista Vesty-Scott placed 1st overall at the New Zealand Gymsports National Tournament, winning all
three of her apparatus routines. Havana Hopman won a bronze medal at the Junior Commonwealth
Gymnastics Championships held in Namibia recently. Bernadette Vandenanker won the gold medal
for Cadet Women’s Field at the National Archery Tournament. Chelsea Oliver has been selected for
the New Zealand Water Polo National Squad for her age group. Jenna Merrick has been selected for
the New Zealand U19 Road Cycling Team to compete at the Oceania Championships in Canberra.
John Paul College, Rotorua: Makayla Timoti won the Mataatua Junior Sports Woman of the Year
Award for 2016 in recognition of her sporting accomplishments at regional, national and international
level in Waka Ama.

Sacred Heart Girls’ College, New Plymouth: Ariana van Lith has been chosen for the New Zealand
Youth Rock Climbing team to compete at the Oceania Championships in New Caledonia this year.
Paige Jensen, Simone Okey, Alice Grayling, Loren Greenhead and Madison Parker won first in their
division at the NZCU Cheer and Dance Nationals. Mahala Beasley won a gold medal in both
individual and team events at the Taekwondo National Championships. Sasha Reid won four gold
medals at the New Zealand Short Course Swimming Championships. Holly Pearson and Hope Ralph
have been selected for the New Zealand Junior Black Sticks Women’s squad. Tara Stevens won two
gold medals at the Surf Lifesaving New Zealand Pool Championships.

Francis Douglas Memorial College, New Plymouth: Zac Reid won four gold medals at the New
Zealand Short Course Swimming Championships. Felix Webby has been selected to represent New
Zealand in Golf Croquet.

St John’s College, Hastings: Josh van Hooijdonk competed at the Oceania Taekwondo
Championships held in Fiji.

St Mary’s College, Wellington: Ainsleyana Puleiata travelled to Fiji where she played for the New
Zealand U21 Netball Team. Ivana Samani, Jada Jacobs and Riarna Vulu were members of the
Wellington U16 Touch team that won the Touch New Zealand Grassroots Trust 2017 Junior National
Tournament, and were declared the national champions. Otila Tavite has been selected for the Junior
White Sox to play the World Series in Florida. The Sevens team, having won the Condor Sevens
National Secondary Schools Tournament, will now travel to Fuluoka, Japan to compete in the Sanix
World Youth Championships. Year 11 students Renee Savai’inea and Ainsleyana Puleita have been
selected for the NZ U21 Netball Team, to compete in the Netball Wordl Cup in Gabarone Botswana.

St Patrick’s College, Kilbirnie: Gerard Ahnau won the Senior Discus with a throw of 52.12m at the
New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics 2016.

St Hilda’s Collegiate School, Dunedin: The Senior 4 x 100 Relay Team consisting of Caitlyn
George, Joccoaa Palmer, Leonie Palmer and Sarah Langsbury placed first at the New Zealand
Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships.

Middleton Grange School, Christchurch: Lauren Beukes received a Whakatane District Council
Young Achievers Award for her contribution to rowing.
St Kevin’s College, Oamaru: Jess Fraser won the national title for the Ladies Single Barrel in
Shooting.
