Integrated Schools’ Sporting Achievements August 2017
Pompallier Catholic College, Whangarei: D’Artagnan Gould has been selected to represent New Zealand at the 10th World Karate Federation Youth Cup in Croatia. Ciara Smith was selected by the New Zealand Olympic Committee into the NZ Youth Commonwealth Team to compete in swimming at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas in July.
Carmel College, Milford: Sarah Stewart, Heather Lock, Maxine Stoute and Jorgia Bult were selected for the NZ Youth/Born 2000/2001 Girls’ Water Polo Team and travelled to Sydney to compete in the Water Polo Youth Festival in July. Gabriella Slight has been selected for the NZ Youth Volleyball Development team to tour Australia in September.
Liston College, Henderson: Leo Fatialofa represented NZ in Squash and is now the 2017 Oceania U15 Boys Champion. Malek Ripikoi-Jackson was selected to represent NZ at the GKR Karate World Championships. TJ Paea competed in the U18 Oceania Athletics Championships where he won Gold in the 100m race and Bronze in the 200m race.
Eli Lesoa Sancta Maria College
Sancta Maria College, Flat Bush: Eli Lesoa is representing New Zealand in the Under 13 Cal Ripken World Series (Baseball) Tournament in Missouri.
St Mary’s College, Auckland: Mellata Tatola represented NZ at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas, in shotput and discus; she finished 4th in Discus and 7th in Shot Put. The NZ team finished 3rd overall out of 35 countries. Victoria Kelly was a member of the NZ U23 Lacrosse squad for the Lacrosse World Cup in Korea, in July.
St Peter’s College, Auckland: James Guthrie-Croft was selected for the NZ Youth Commonwealth Team, reaching the semi-finala in both the 100m and 200m athletics at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas in July. Ronan Gogarty Watson has been selected for the NZ Youth/Born 2000 Boys’ Water Polo Team and will travel to Europe to compete. Jayden Kuijpers was selected for the NZ U19 Road Cycling team which competed in Canada in July.
Marcellin College, Auckland: Simran Kumar has been selected to represent ITFNZ as a member of the New Zealand national team for Taekwon-Do. He will travel to Dublin in October to compete at the World Championships. Noah Vilisoni-Heather attended the Commonwealth Youth Games 2017 held in the Bahamas; he represented the Cook Islands. He achieved two personal bests in 100m free and 50m fly.
Baradene College Orienteering Champions
Baradene College, Remuera: Abigail Morton and Jenna Merrick were selected for the NZ Youth Commonwealth Team to compete in cycling at the Youth Commonwealth Games held in the Bahamas in July. Samantha Milicich was selected for the NZ U17 Waterpolo team and competed at the Sydney Youth Waterpolo Festival in July. Junior orienteering team Anna Duston, Chelsea Oliver, Lucy Burrell, Penelope Salmon, Petra Buyck and Rachel Buyck won third place at the World School Orienteering Championships in Sicily. Lucy Burrell and Anna Duston were also selected for the NZ Secondary Schools’ Orienteering Team and will compete for the Southern Cross Trophy in Australia later in the year. Havana Hopman competed at the Australian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. Olivia Casey was selected for the U16 NZ Waterpolo team. Lilly Parke represented NZ in the Under 14 Basketball team which travelled to Melbourne in June.
Rosmini College, Takapuna: Michael Slessor-White and James Catlin were selected for the New Zealand U20 Water Polo Team. Oliver Houghton has been selected for the New Zealand Stand-Up Paddle team and will compete at the World Championships to be held in Denmark in September.
Marian Catholic School, Hamilton: Alexandria Endres is one of New Zealand’s youngest representatives in Pool. She competed in the VNEA World Pool Junior Championships in Pennsylvania, where she was placed fourth in the U14 Girls Singles.
Aquinas College, Tauranga: Josef Schuler and Kiahi Horan were selected for the NZ Junior Men’s Waterpolo Team for the tour to Montenegro and Croatia in July-August.
Hannah O’Connor
Sacred Heart Girls’ College, New Plymouth: Kelston Reynolds has been selected for the NZ U17 Indoor Netball Team and will travel to South Africa to compete. Ariana Van Lith has been selected for the NZ Rock Climbing team and will compete at the Oceania Championships in New Caledonia. Tiaan Owen has made the NZ U15 Indoor Netball Team and will travel to South Africa to compete. Hannah O’Connor won the senior girls’ title at the NZ Cross Country Championships, and was also selected for the NZ Youth Commonwealth Games Team to compete in the Bahamas in July. Caitlin O’Connell was named captain of the NZ U16 team which travelled to Australia to compete in July.
Francis Douglas Memorial College, New Plymouth: Zac Reid was selected for the New Zealand Youth Commonwealth Team to compete in swimming at the Youth Commonwealth Games held in the Bahamas in July, he was also selected for the NZ National Team, the Junior Black Fins, and the NZ Surf Life Saving Youth Squad.
St Joseph’s Māori Girls’ College, Napier: Destiny Baker will attend the World Indigenous Nations Games and International Conference hosted by the Enoch Cree Nation in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and will showcase multi-sport and traditional events of indigenous nations from across the globe. The theme of this year’s event will carry the theme of Peace, Reconciliation and Cultural Diversity.
St Joseph’s School, Hawera: Reece Holmes is the no. 1 ranked U11 boys squash player in New Zealand.
Wanganui Collegiate School, Whanganui: Kyle Hoskin was selected for Team New Zealand, and will compete in six cycling races in a Dynamo series from September through to February.
St Oran’s Collage, Lower Hutt: Emily Potts and Sarah Calvert were selected for the NZ U16 Indoor Netball team and will compete at the World Champs in South Africa.
St Bernard’s College, Lower Hutt: Wyatt So’otaga and Llai Tuia were selected in the New Zealand U16 Rugby League merit team after being stand-out players at the NZRL National High Performance Camp they attended.
Marian College, Christchurch: Taylor McCaughan was selected for the New Zealand Aerobics Team to compete in the USA.
Middleton Grange School, Christchurch: Kayleigh Gouman and Ava White, Emma Malcolm placed 1st in the U18 Women’s team, Renzo Childs placed 2nd in the U18 Men’s team and Emma Malcolm came 2nd in the U21 Women’s team at the New Zealand Canoe Polo Championships.
Villa Maria College, Christchurch: Emma Smith was named in the New Zealand Cycling Team. Navajo Prentice was selected for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Team to compete in Australia in August. Tamara Maracijasz represented New Zealand at the 2017 Australian Gymnastics Championships in the Youth International Level and won a silver medal in the Double Mini Trampoline event. Tegan Duffy is competing for New Zealand in Athletics at the Oceania Games in Fiji. Julia Burnham who has been selected in the New Zealand Children’s Athletic Team to compete at the All Schools’ Games in Adelaide Australia in December.
Kavanagh College, Dunedin: Erika Fairweather has broken a NZ record in swimming in the 400m individual medley and also the 13 years 1500m Freestyle record, she has been named in the National Development Squad. Dom Madden, Tim O’Farrell, Andrew Cromb, and Finn Kelly have been selected to travel to Northern Ireland recently to compete in the very prestigious Super Cup Football Tournament.
St Peter’s College, Gore: Sophie Shallard has been selected for the National Development Swimming Squad. Fourteen girls attended the Interglobal Festival of Netball on the Gold Coast of Australia.
